Let us know about a new pregnancy or child
If you’re currently getting Healthy Start payments, you should let us know as soon as possible if:
- you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant
- you’ve recently given birth
- you’ve become responsible for a new child under 4
You may be entitled to an increase in your payments. It’s important to keep your details up to date so we can make sure you’re being paid correctly.
You can update your details online if you get Universal Credit or Child Tax Credit.
If you get a different benefit
You cannot update your details online.
You need to contact us to tell us about any changes in your circumstances if you currently get Healthy Start payments and get:
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income Support
- Pension Credit with the child addition
Universal Credit claimants
If you’re adding a new child under 4 to your Healthy Start claim, you need to tell Universal Credit about your new child (opens in a new tab) before we can start making payments.
Child Tax Credit claimants
Child Tax Credit is ending on 5 April 2025.
If you get Child Tax Credit, you’ll still be eligible for NHS Healthy Start payments if you move to Universal Credit and your take-home pay (also called ‘earned income’) is £408 or less.
To continue to get your NHS Healthy Start payments after you move to Universal Credit, there are 2 things you need to do:
- Apply for Universal Credit within 16 weeks of your Child Tax Credit coming to an end.
- Make sure all your children are listed as dependents and verified on your Universal Credit claim.
If we’ve sent you a text message asking for you to confirm your children’s first name, last name and date of birth before 5 April 2025, you can tell us by:
- using our online form
- calling 0300 330 7010
